On May 6th I had the day off, the sun was shining so I headed toward the mountains! I had been talking to an intern from another farm about short hikes in the area, and she recommended Mt. Walker. It is a short hike- only about 2 miles up, 4 miles round trip, but steep! Elevations started at 800 ft, and is 2800 ft at the top. The view really did make it worth it though! Plus it was only a 45 minute drive there.
View from the top
This guy cracked me up. I learned that it is in the Blue Jay family (the name is escaping me right now though). They are known for being super curious. As soon as I got to the top I brought out my lunch which happened to consist of a slice of bread. He quickly showed up and was hopping around my feet. He actually landed on my foot at one point, so I put a crumb in my hand and he hopped on and took it!
Met a really nice couple on the trail who took my picture and gave me lots of tips on other trails in the area
I don't know if I will ever get used to the height of the trees out here- and these are young!
